Pre-season completed

Pre-season is now over and this week we look forward to the start of the ISP Handa Premiership for 2017/18. If game one is any indication we are in for an interesting season with Team Wellington defeating Auckland City 3-1 in the Charity Shield. This game also doubled up as a ISP Handa Round due to Auckland City’s commitments in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Waitakere United’s pre-season has seen a lot of new faces into the squad with numerous trialists being given the opportunity to push for inclusion in the first team squad for the season.

The team played 4 pre-season matches with a 2 win, 1 draw, 1 loss record. The first game in the pre-season was a game against Canterbury dragons and this resulted in a 1 all draw. Next up was Auckland City and this resulted in a 2-0 loss. After that match the Coaching staff decided they were a match short in pre-season and decided to push the squad to play two games in 3 days.

The team played Eastern Suburbs on Friday and won 2-1 and then travelled down to Hamilton early on Sunday morning to record a 4-2 win after being down 2-0 at half-time.

The coach has now settled on his squad and we look forward to announcing the first match day squad for the away game in Canterbury this Sunday.
